Sociology Field Trip to Ping Shan Heritage Trail
On 14 October 2017, the Sociology Department organised a mentoring activity entitled “Come with Us! Visiting Ping Shan Heritage, Learning Sociology!! ( 結伴出發: 考察屏山文物，認識社會學)”. This mentoring activity aimed to introduce students to the discipline of Sociology and its relevance to the everyday life. Over 30 students and departmental staff joined together to visit the Ping Shan Heritage Trail in Yuen Long. Guided by Dr. Chan Kwok Shing, Associate Professor, participants visited the Tang lineage halls and temples to learn about the different aspects of a Chinese lineage community from the sociological perspective, such as gender, stratification and social networks. After the trip, participants enjoyed a local cuisine (poonchoi), through which they explored the culture of the New Territories lineage in terms of festive eating habits. It was a truly memorable experience for all participants.
