2016-07-04

The Annual CLAP Conference 2016 of the Career and Life Adventure Planning Project for Youth was successfully held on 23 and 24 June 2016 at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The Conference was so pleased to have Mr. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, SBS, JP, Secretary for Education, Prof. Roland Chin, President & Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University, and Mr. Leong Cheung, Executive Director, Charities and Community, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, to serve as the Guest of Honors of the opening ceremony. The Conference also invited Prof. Maureen Kenny from the USA, Prof. Shelley Tien Hsiu-lan from Taiwan, and Ms. Renu Vasanth Kumar from Barclays, to share how stakeholder engagement is carried out in various contexts.

Created and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, co-created by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University, and involved in collaboration with a number of strategic partners since May 2015, the CLAP for Youth @ JC Project is Hong Kong’s first cross-sectoral project that helps students and non-engaged youth identify their career interests and develop their career roadmaps.

With the provision of a very rich programme of 6 keynote and plenary speeches and a total of 16 parallel sessions, the theme of the 2-day Conference: “Towards Meaningful Engagement: Connecting Youth to Stakeholders and Careers” was focused on discussing the conceptual and practice framework for developing evidence-based intervention, and disseminating good practices and experiences in connecting young people with different stakeholders and promoting the synergy that could lead to meaningful engagement of young people in both school and community settings. Over 400 participants from the professional disciplines of education and youth work joined the Conference and the delegate feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
