Nanjing Normal University Delegation visited the Faculty

A delegation of 18 Geography undergraduate students and 3 professors from Nanjing Normal University (NNU) visited the Department of Geography (GEOG) from 22 to 24 February 2017. NNU features one of the most renowned Geography programmes in China and this was the first overseas field trip of NNU Geography undergraduate students.

Prof. Wang Donggen, Head of GEOG, delivered a welcome speech and introduction to the Department, followed by a guided tour of the Department facilities. During the 3-day visit, Prof. Zhou Qiming, Dr. Yang Chun, Dr. Mah Daphne Ngar-yin, and Dr. Li Jianfeng delivered talks on postgraduate programme admission and various geographical topics, including Hong Kong-Pearl River Delta cooperation, sustainable energy policy and hydrology management. A lunch gathering also facilitated exchange and interaction between the students and faculty members from HKBU and NNU.

Prof. Tang Wing Shing led a field trip to Sham Shui Po which provided an opportunity for the visiting students to gain first-hand experience of the densely populated area where many low-income families/elderly live in partitioned flats. Guided by Prof. R. Bernhart Owen, students also sailed on the Rocky Harbour in Sai Kung and appreciated the formation of internationally rare acidic hexagonal volcanic rock columnar joints and stunning coastal landforms in the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.
