With the implementation of four-year university curriculum structure in 2012, the Departments and Programme Offices of the Faculty have restructured current 3-year curriculum of UGC-funded programmes concerned. In addition, the Faculty has introduced a new admission practice for some major programmes to be grouped under joint admission in line with the idea of broad-based training of the University.

4-year Degree Programmes

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History  aims to help students develop a holistic pespective of history. It provides a balanced curriculum with equal emphasis on China and the global world. Courses offered cover a variety of topics, periods, and regions. It also enables students to conduct historical inquiries effectively and independently thorough training in historical theories, methods and research skills. After completing the programme, students will possess a sound understanding of major events and movements that have shaped the growth of the human community, as well as the skills necessary to trace the historical roots of contemporary issues and to analyse worldwide the impact of individual events. Students will develop a critical and broadminded attitude toward the traditions and cultural heritage of different civilisations.

Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Geography enables students to obtain a firm foundation in geographical knowledge and methodology. Emphasis is placed on the ways in which geographers may assist in comprehending our society / living environment and finding solutions to real world problems. Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Sociology is concerned with the study of the complex relationships among individuals, groups and larger social structures. It places strong emphasis on the integration of theory and research, and offers rigorous training in quantitative and qualitative research skills. More specifically, the programme aims to provide students with (1) knowledge on the persistence and changes in social structures and their relationships with various social institutions; (2) a critical understanding of social values and the meanings of behaviour in different social situations; and (3) abilities to conduct independent research on social issues.

The Programme which is composed of four Concentrations: Economics, Geography, History and Sociology. It aims at providing students with a solid training in a selected concentration and multi-disciplinary knowledge base, in addition to knowledge about China. A distinctive feature of this Programme is the Summer Sojourn programme. It requires all third year students to spend 4-5 weeks at the Tsinghua University in Beijing to integrate the knowledge they learn about China with personal experiences.

2-year Top-up Degree Programmes

It is targeted for graduates of associate degree/higher diploma programmes aiming to help students develop life goals and foster a positive attitude towards learning. It also provides them with a thorough understanding of the discipline, particularly in the areas of clinical, developmental and educational psychology.
Admission Requirements :

To be eligible for admission, a candidate should hold an Associate Degree from Hong Kong Baptist University or other recognized institutions; or a Higher Diploma from other recognized institutions

Candidates who possess equivalent qualifications are to be assessed by the Admission Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Final year Associate Degree/Higher Diploma students may also apply for admission whereas their offer will only be confirmed upon successful completion of the Associate Degree/Higher diploma programme.

Applicants will be required to attend an admission interview as part of the selection process.

It is offered for graduates of associate degree programmes who wish to develop a career in the sport and recreation industry. A special focus is placed on the planning and the delivery of sport and recreation programmes to persons with special needs such as disabilities, developmental concerns and older adults.
Admission Requirements :

To be eligible for admission, a candidate should hold an Associate Degree (or equivalent). Graduates of the HKBU Associate Degree in Sport & Recreation Studies may apply for direct admission to Year III of the programme.

For direct entry to Year III, students are required to complete all the prerequisites and complementary studies as stipulated by the University.

It is offered for graduates of associate degree or higher diploma programmes who wish to pursue their study in social policy. It develops students’ understanding and ability to participate in the making and evaluation of social policies in local, regional and international contexts.
Admission Requirements :

To be eligible for admission, a candidate should hold an Associate Degree in Applied Social Service or related disciplines from HKBU or equivalent qualifications offered by other local/overseas recognized institutions; or a relevant Higher Diploma from other recognized institutions.

Candidates who possess equivalent qualifications are to be assessed by the Admission Committee on a case-by-case basis.

It is targeted for graduates of associate degree/higher diploma programmes in environment-related fields such as environmental conservation studies, environmental protection, environmental science, life science, and earth science. It aims to provide students with a foundational knowledge in both the natural and social sciences in order to apply interdisciplinary approaches in studying and analyzing environmental issues.
Admission Requirements :

To be eligible for admission, a candidate should hold an Associate Degree in Environmental Conservation Studies or related disciplines or an equivalent qualification offered by other recognized institutions.

A minimum standard cGPA of 2.5 will be required.
