On 22 October 2017, the first round of the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation and Development Forum was held in Macau. Scholars from Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, HKBU, Macau University, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau, and Macau Society of Oceanography attended the forum. They shared views on the industrial cooperation between Guangdong and Macau and gave suggestions on the fields, modes, and directions of further cooperation. The Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ACCS) was the only institute from Hong Kong being invited to participate in the forum. Dr. Karen Xu, Assistant Director of ACCS, delivered a speech on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau cross-border regional coordination. After the forum, ACCS and the two organisers of the forum, Macau Economic Association and Institute of Hong Kong, Macao & SEZs Economy at Jinan University, reached a consensus on further cooperation, and planned to co-organise a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Cooperation and Development Forum each year in Guangzhou, Macau or Hong Kong to serve as a platform for experts and scholars to advise on the development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
On 30 October 2017, Prof. Mak King Sang, Director of ACCS and Dr. Karen Xu welcomed Dr. Yun Zhong, Director of the Institute of Hong Kong, Macao & SEZs Economy at Jinan University, Mr. Fei Gao, Chairman of the Nansha Youth Federation, Guangzhou and their colleagues. During the two-hour discussion, the three parties reached a consensus to jointly promote Hong Kong students internships, fieldworks, employment and business startup programmes in Nansha, which is one of the major platforms for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation, in the hope of enhancing Hong Kong young people’s understanding of not only Nansha but also the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay, and their interests in seeking career opportunities and contributing to the development of this fast-growing economic zone.
