Following the establishment of The Spring and Autumn Annals Award & The Herodotus Award, and Dr. Soo Kim Lan Scholarship, the Department of History announces that it has received another generous donation to establish the “Department of History 40th Anniversary Scholarship: Professor Robin D S Yates and Professor Grace S Fong Scholarship” in celebration of the Department’s 40th Anniversary in 2018. The new scholarship is established by Prof. Robin D S Yates, Visiting University Fellow, Department of History (15 August 2017-15 January 2018), James McGill Professor, Department of East Asian Studies and Department of History and Classical Studies, McGill University; and Prof. Grace S Fong, Visiting Professor, School of Chinese, The University of Hong Kong, Professor of Chinese Literature in the Department of East Asian Studies, McGill University.
Starting from 2018, a Year-3 student in any Major programmes offered by the History Department who has achieved the highest cumulative GPA (CGPA) in the second semester of each academic year, as well as accumulated the highest number of HIST/CHSH course units in Asian and Canadian history will receive the award. In case two or more students obtain the same CGPA and have accumulated the same number of course units in Asian and Canadian history, the Department Head may exercise his/her discretion to award one student or split the award to recognise more than one student.
