Expert shares insights on the importance of record management
The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Government and International Studies, and Comparative Governance and Policy Research Centre invited Mr Simon Chu, Adjunct Associate Professor from the Department of History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and former Director of the Hong Kong Government Records Service, to deliver a lecture titled “How to Build Smart Society – Smart Public Records”.
In the lecture, Mr Chu highlighted a series of incidents where poor public records and archives management undermined accountability and transparency during the policy-making process. He further elucidated the principles, standards and values of good archives management. Mr Chu explained why it has become more important than ever for Hong Kong to introduce appropriate legislation and invest in the training of a new generation of professional archivists in the age of big data and the digitalisation of information.
