Guest Speaker shares insights on active ageing

Dr Liam Foster shares insights on active ageing as a policy response to the challenges of ageing.

The Faculty of Social Sciences invited Dr Liam Foster, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociological Studies at The University of Sheffield in England, to deliver a lecture titled “Using Active Ageing as a Policy Response to the Challenges of Ageing” on 6 August 2019.

In the lecture, Dr Foster highlighted that active ageing has been dominated by a narrow economic or productivist perspective that prioritizes the extension of working life and reducing the ‘burden’ of population ageing. He further elucidated active ageing has an important role to play in our understanding of and responses to ageing. Dr Foster also explained that active ageing should be central to policy strategies for improving older people’s well-being.
