The First-ever Online Hong Kong Geography Day on “Towards Smart Society: Hong Kong and Beyond"

The Hong Kong Geography Day (HKGD) 2020, co-organized by the Department of Geography, HKBU and the Hong Kong Geographical Association, was successfully organized on 21 November 2020 with more than 700 participants from not only local institutions but also overseas places. HKGD aims to promote geography knowledge among secondary school students and teachers and also provides a platform for professional sharing among faculty members and research students. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was the first-ever online HKGD in the history of the Hong Kong Geographical Association.

Two renowned speakers, Prof. Michael Frank Goodchild, the Emeritus Professor of Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Ms. Winnie Shiu, the Head of Spatial Data Office of the Development Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR, were invited to respectively share their insights on movement and mobility and Common Spatial Data Infrastructure in Hong Kong.

School talks delivered by eminent speakers including Prof. Lam Chi Chung, Mr. Ip Kim Wai, Ms. Ho Sau Hung, Mr. Anthony Yeung and Mr. Tony Leung also attracted more than 300 secondary school students and teachers. The career roadshow effectively provided a platform for both the participating organizations and geography students to match with their future partners at work.
