On Friday, 22 April 2016, the 4th Global Social Science Graduate Student Conference brought together around a hundred students from 25 universities in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and India to discuss cutting edge scholarship in social science. With a central theme of ‘Transition”, the participants exchanged views and presented their latest studies on a wide array of topics, such as “social psychology”, “migration”, “economics & social development”, “historical study and biography” and “Contemporary China studies” during the seven parallel sessions.
At the Opening Ceremony, Prof. Adrian J. Bailey, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences welcomed all participants to the event. He said “The Conference was organized in celebration of HKBU’s 60th anniversary and the 45th anniversary of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Through this Conference, we aim to provide students an opportunity to share your research work and to network professionally.” Prof. Bailey added “We are proud of the initiatives of our graduate students who put together an impressive programme. We hope you will enjoy the event today.”
The conference featured a keynote address delivered by honorable guest, Prof. Hoshino Toshiya, Executive Vice President of the Osaka University. Participants benefited from Prof. Hoshino’s insights on how the global processes and systems affected everyday lives and the wellbeing of society.
As part of the Conference programme, a Paper Competition was open to all presenters. Three Best Paper Awards and five Best Presentation Awards were presented to the following winners in recognition of their excellence in student research.
