The History Department recently received a major donation of HK$1 million from the Tan Siu Lin Foundation. This is designated for the establishment of the Dr. Tan Siu Lin Scholarship to recognise five newly admitted History Majors each year and to encourage the awardees to participate in overseas exchange programmes.
In recognition of the Foundation’s generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Dr. Tan Siu Lin, Chairman of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and Founder & Chairman of Luen Thai International Group Limited (LTIG); and Prof. Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of HKBU took place in Shiu Pong Hall on 25 May 2016, followed by a luncheon hosted by the PVC.
Guests and HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Dr. Henry Tan, Vice-Chairman of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of LTIG; Mr. Li Hexie, Secretary General of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and Senior Former Vice President of LTIG; Mr. Christopher Ho, Director of Chairman’s Office of LTIG; Prof. Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Prof Clara Wing-chung Ho, Head; Prof. Chow Kai Wing; Prof Lee Kam Keung, Adjunct Professor, History Department; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement Office.
It is also worth noting that Dr. Henry Tan was recently interviewed by the University Advancement Office to share his business success story and entrepreneurship theory. The interview report not only reveals that how Dr. Tan has become a successful and charismatic social entrepreneur, but also shows his great socio-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
