Student breaks four records in Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships

Wong Man-ting (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 4) recently won the championship title in the female junior group at the Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships and broke four records – Squat, Bench press and Deadlift in Female 57 KG Junior Group and Squat in Female Open Group.

Powerlifting is not a popular sport among women. Man-ting did not take part in this sport until she studied at HKBU. She gained professional guidance from schoolmates which significantly improved her performance and gradually raised her interest in powerlifting. “From powerlifting, I can understand my limits and think of ways to achieve a breakthrough,” she said. To gauge her level of strength, she took part in the competition and has had intensive and focused training for a period of three months before the competition began.

This was the very first time Man-ting joined the Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships organised by the Hong Kong Weightlifting and Powerlifting Association. She was excited and happy about her performance and sincerely thanked her schoolmates for their encouragement and guidance which has motivated her to keep on advancing in the sport.

Man-ting is planning to turn her passion for powerlifting into a career and is working hard to become a teacher or trainer upon her graduation.
