Physical Education student wins Asian squash competition

Joey Chan (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 2) who represented the territory as a member of the Hong Kong women’s squash team won a gold medal in the Asian Squash Team Championships held in Cheongju, South Korea.
To better prepare for the competition, Joey increased her weight-bearing training and arranged extra sessions to review her performance and opponents’ tactics with her coaches through videos. 
In the final round, she faced a Korean opponent, the third seed of the competition who also benefited from home-court advantage. Joey said she found the competition very challenging and felt lucky that she and her teammates possess excellent psychological qualities and managed to stay calm throughout the event, enabling them to bring home the top prize.
The event is considered the preliminaries of the Asian Games. Joey said that the encouraging result boosted the team’s morale and confidence, and she hopes they can carry this sprit to the Asian Games, which will be held in August, to earn glory for Hong Kong.
