US scholar examines China and the World in 1900


Professor Jeffrey Wasserstrom, a distinguished historian from the University of California, Irvine, delivered a lecture at HKBU on 6 November which discussed the relationship between China and the World during a time of significant upheaval at the end of the 19th century.
Organised by the Department of History, the lecture entitled “The Ghosts of 1900: China and the World in a Year of Global War”. Professor Wasserstrom examined the interconnections between the conflicts, such as the Boxer Crisis in China and the Boer War in South Africa, that took place in different parts of the world during the final year of the nineteenth century.
