Promoting Positive Youth Development through School-University-Elderly Learning Community
Over 40 secondary school principals, teachers and students, HKBU students (from the Faculty of Social Sciences and School of Business) and staff participated in a kick-off ceremony to celebrate the official launch of the Quality Education Fund (QEF) project entitled “Promoting Positive Youth Development through School-University-Elderly Learning Community” on 11 November 2016. Led by Prof. Atara Sivan, Head, and Prof. Vicky Tam, Associate Head of the Education Studies Department (EDUC), the 2-year project aims to enhance students’ knowledge and skills and cultivate their sense of belonging and positive social values through collaborative intergenerational engagement in issues of healthy living and well-being. It involves active participation of HKBU students and staff, secondary school students and teachers and older adults in the community. Project team includes: Mr. Yeung Siu Wing, Miss Asa Yip and Mr. Tony Chow, EDUC, who together with the project leaders will facilitate the university students in their undertaking of leadership and mentoring roles.
The kick-off ceremony included presentation of the project’s framework, sharing of experiences and exchange of ideas on the project implementation. All participants showed great enthusiasm to become active members of the project’s learning community and materialize the project aims which align with the university mission of whole person education.
