I would like to show my gratitude to the Faculty of Social Sciences who acknowledges my effort in community service by giving me the Social Science Scholarships for Community Action. It is a motivation for me to continue to dedicate myself in serving the community.

I always believe that community action should not be taken only in the local context but also globally in order to help as more people as I can. I have been the part-time voluntary tutorial teacher in a community centre since 2015 serving the primary students from low-income families and engaged in a house-building service trip in Macedonia for two weeks. These community service experience widens my horizons and gets me out of my comfort zone. It gives me the opportunity to understand and to face down-to-earth real-life problem that we could hardly see in our own social circle. It also allows me to realize my insufficiency (in terms of teaching experience and worldviews) in bringing practical help to the people who are in need. When it comes to improving the quality of life of others, it involves more knowledge, skills and teamwork that we cannot merely learn from school or textbook.

Therefore, if you want to make some quality contribution for others, we have to be humble, observative and open-minded first of all, in order to equip ourselves with more knowledge and skills. We should never limit ourselves but to take chances to participate in social service across countries, as it provides us with the insight in handling social problems in different perspectives. More importantly, it allows us to see the world in a grain of sand.
