Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Government and International Studies
Since a young age, I have always been taught to be kind and helpful. That is why I really enjoy doing community work, but doing this is never an easy task for me. At first, I did not put too much time and effort into volunteering because of my studies. Yet, I often consider what I should pursue and devote to society. I am majoring in social science, and I do have a strong interest in how to make our community better with the knowledge and skills I have been studying. John F. Kennedy once said, “Things do not happen. Things are made to happen.” I wish to create some impact on social affairs step by step, though I am solely a person. Therefore, I decided to participate in community activities and services that embarked on my service journey.
In the journey of volunteering, I have discovered my strengths and weaknesses, which have developed my knowledge and abilities to maintain enthusiasm and overcome unexpected challenges. Also, my studies shed light on policies and international issues, which has substantially enhanced my awareness of the local community and global citizenship, as well as provided more opportunities for both local and global activities that allow me to help needy people from different age groups and cultural backgrounds, including children, people with special needs and ethnic minorities. Flourishing myself through the service journey not merely broadens my scope of service knowledge and talents but also gives me a sense of accomplishment. Of course, I hope to constantly and positively impact others, so I will keep moving forward in the future!
